ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After totaling a career-high 26 points in UCF's season-opening win over Massachusetts, sophomore guard Isaac Sosa (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) was selected as the Conference USA Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. On Friday, Sosa led the Knights to an 84-67 victory against the Minutemen.
He recorded one of the best shooting performances in school history in the win. Sosa connected on 9-of-11 field goals, and went 6-of-7 from 3-point range. His six triples matched a career high and also tied for seventh on the UCF single-game 3-point field goals made list. In 33 minutes, Sosa also added four rebounds and two assists.
The player of the week honor is the first for Sosa. Last season, he did receive C-USA Rookie of the Week honors on one occasion.
Sosa and the Knights will return to action Tuesday, hosting Howard at 7 p.m. at the UCF Arena. After meeting the Bison, UCF will play three games at the Glenn Wilkes Classic in Daytona Beach, starting with a Friday contest against Auburn.
