ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Whether starting or coming off the bench. Scoring or distributing the basketball. Playing big minutes or just giving a starter a rest. Helping her team avoid the upset or trying to pull one off in the NCAA Tournament. Marshay White (Rochester, N.Y.) just did her job.

While many others received the attention during the UCF women's basketball team's run to the Conference USA Tournament title and the NCAA Tournament in 2009, then-sophomore Marshay White did whatever was asked to help her team succeed. Without her contributions, the Knights not only would have fallen short of the championship, but may also have been knocked out in the first round of the c-USA tournament.

In the team's opening game against 12th-seeded Rice, UCF was struggling to score. White's high school teammate, Emma Cannon, was being held in check by double and triple teams, and the Owls were threatening to pull off the upset. Coming off the bench, White provided a much-needed lift, scoring 10 points as UCF escaped.

In the semifinals, White earned the start against top-seeded SMU and scored 13 points as UCF won 62-51 to reach the championship game. In the NCAA Tournament, White came up big with 12 points against North Carolina.

During her freshman season, White started for UCF and averaged 11.6 points per game. Accepting a new role as a sophomore, she averaged 7.2 points per game coming off the bench. In her two seasons as a Knight, White has scored 593 points and tallied 154 assists.

UCF will officially get the 2009-10 season underway on the road this weekend, playing at No. 24 Middle Tennessee State on Sunday. The Knights will play six of their nine non-conference games at the UCF Arena, including the home opener on Nov. 20 against Bethune-Cookman.

Season tickets for both teams are currently on sale with the UCF Ticket Office. For more information on tickets, contact the ticket office at (407) 823-1000.
