TAMPA, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team concluded play at the USF Invitational Sunday and the Knights' top doubles team took the title at the four-team event. After improving to 3-0 in Flight 1, senior Marc Rocafort (Barcelona, Spain) and junior Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.) were named tournament doubles champions.
On Sunday, the Knights met players from LSU. Rocafort and Schwartz held on for a 9-8 (8-6) triumph over Neil Skupski and Stefan Szacinski.
The tournament was the last event of the fall for head coach Bobby Cashman's Knights.
In singles action, two UCF players recorded victories. In Flight 4, senior Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) topped Szacinski, 7-5, 6-1. Against Julien Gauthier in Flight 3, sophomore Claudio Romano (Valencia, Venezuela) registered a 6-4, 5-7, (10-3) win.
UCF will open its spring dual-match schedule on Jan. 22, playing Florida in Gainesville. The Knights' home opener at the UCF Tennis Complex is set for Feb. 5 against Troy.
