ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Day two of the UCF Invitational Friday was a success for the UCF men's tennis team. UCF players won four singles matches and also took two doubles contests at the UCF Tennis Complex.
The Knights met players from South Carolina at the tournament. In Singles A Draw play, UCF sophomore Claudio Romano (Valencia, Venezuela) took a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Ivan Machado. Facing Ivan Cressoni in Singles B Draw action, junior Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.) was a 7-6 (4), 6-1 winner.
Senior Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) and sophomore Eugene Dolgovykh (Palm Coast, Fla.) also took singles victories Thursday.
After recording an 8-4 win over Cressoni and Johannes Pulsfort, Schwartz and senior Marc Rocafort (Barcelona, Spain) took the Doubles A Draw title. The pair went 2-0. In Doubles B play, senior Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) and freshman Mario Samson (Miami, Fla.) posted an 8-5 win over David Wolff and Chris Sheehan, giving the Knights the draw championship.
"We played well today," UCF head coach Bobby Cashman said. "In our two doubles wins, our guys finished well. Claudio played outstanding. Our guys played well, considering the heat. There is room for growth, and we will be working on pushing and finishing in the next few weeks."
The event, which began Thursday, will conclude Saturday. Play will start at 9 a.m. Admission at the UCF Tennis Complex is free.
