TAMPA, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Play began Friday at the USF Invitational and senior Marc Rocafort (Barcelona, Spain) of the UCF men's tennis team recorded a big singles victory for the Knights. In Flight 1 action, Rocafort claimed a 6-2, 7-5 win over the 79th-ranked player in the country, Carl Sundberg of Miami.
Rocafort was one of three Knights who won in singles play Friday. In Flight 6, sophomore Eugene Dolgovykh (Palm Coast, Fla.) eased to a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Miami's Barnabas Carrega. Freshman Mario Samson (Miami, Fla.) was a 6-4, 6-3 winner in Flight 7 over the Hurricanes' Hector Nieto.
Host USF and LSU are also competing at the three-day tournament.
The Knights took two of three tilts against Miami doubles teams. Rocafort joined junior Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.) to top David Simon and Christian Blocker, 8-3, in Flight 1. Facing Waylon Chin and Ignacio Taboada in Flight 3, senior Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) and sophomore Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.) rolled to an 8-4 win.
The event is serving as the Knights' final tournament of the fall.
