ORLANDO, Fla. - Freshman Valentina Fontaine (Santiago, Chile) was named the Conference USA Female Golfer of the Week on Wednesday, just 24 hours after she fired three consecutive under-par rounds to place second overall at the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational at the par-72 Pelican Preserve Golf and Country Club in Fort Myers.
Fontaine's performance held UCF to a third place finish out of 15 teams competing in the Knights' fall season finale.
Fontaine, on a hot and steamy Monday, shot a 69 in the morning and a 71 in the afternoon. She matched that 71 on Tuesday for a three-round score of 211 (-5). Fontaine finished the event looking up at only Shena Yang of USF's 208 (-8).
Fontaine was UCF's best finisher in three of the four events that the team played this fall. These were her first three under-par rounds as a Knight. Her first round score of 69 made her one of just four golfers in the field of 81 to card a score in the 60s in any of the event's three rounds.
