ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After helping to lead the UCF football team to its 50th road win in school history against Rice this past Saturday, wide receiver A.J. Guyton is being recognized as the Bright House Student-Athlete of the Week.
Guyton's impressive play began early in the game when he received a 76-yard pass from quarterback Brett Hodges for a touchdown, giving the Knights a quick 7-0 lead over the Owls within the first minute of play.
Subsequently, Guyton was on the opposite end of the touchdown pass, throwing for 32 yards to Kamar Aiken late in the second quarter. This was the first TD pass by a non-quarterback for the Knights since Kevin Smith threw a 12-yard pass to Darcy Johnson against Tulane on Oct. 21, 2005. This pass also made Guyton the first player to both throw for a TD and catch a TD in the same game since current football assistant coach Sean Beckton in 1990 vs. Texas Southern.
Guyton led the receivers with three receptions for 103 yards, recording his second 100-yard game of both the season and his career. Guyton posted his first when he had 119 receiving yards at East Carolina on Sept. 26.
The Knights take to the field once again when they go up against Conference USA opponent Marshall on Nov. 1 at Bright House Stadium. Kick-off is slated for 8:15 p.m.
