ATHENS, Ga. (UCFAthletics.com) - Three Knights were in action Friday as play began at the ITA Regional Championships on the Georgia campus. Senior Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla.), junior Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.) and sophomore Claudio Romano (Valencia, Venezuela) all competed for UCF.
In round of 64 singles play, Romano dropped a 6-1, 6-4 contest to Elliot Potvin of Georgia Tech. Schwartz faced Johnny Hamui of Florida and fell 6-2, 6-3. Sakey also met a player from Georgia Tech. He lost a 6-3, 7-6 (3) contest to Dean O'Brien.
In round of 32 doubles action, Romano and Sakey came up just short against Florida's Antoine Benneteau and Alexandre Lacroix. The Gator duo escaped with an 8-6 victory.
Play at the tournament will conclude Sunday.
