ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Senior Erin Campbell (Kansas City, Mo.) tied her career-highs with 22 kills and four block solos, while establishing a new career-best with 28 digs, but it was not enough to take a win from Conference USA-foe UAB. The Blazers took a 3-2 (22-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-22, 12-15) victory from the UCF volleyball team Friday night at The Venue at UCF.
The Black and Gold fell to 8-9 on the season and 0-4 in league play, while UAB improved to 9-9 overall and 3-1 in conference matches.
Even though the scoreboard showed a UCF loss, the squad outhit the Blazers .212 to .170 and also outblocked the visitors with 13 total blocks compared to 11. Lastly, the Knights had 109 digs, a mark that matches the eighth-highest totaled since joining the Division I ranks, while UAB tallied 88 digs.
Besides Campbell, two additional Knights registered double-digit kills in the loss, with Kristin Fisher (Clearwater, Fla.) posting a career-high 20 kills and Evija Vilde (Riga, Latvia) adding 12 kills and matched her all-time best with five block assists.
Sara Rex (Oldsmar, Fla.) hit a match-high .462 with seven kills, three digs and two block assists, while Meredith Murphy (Austin, Texas) registered a career-best 33 digs for the Knights. The 33 digs for Murphy also tied the libero for third on the UCF individual match record.
UCF continues C-USA play at The Venue at UCF Sunday with a match-up against Memphis at Noon.
