ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Wearing red wristbands last weekend to honor Freedom High School and FC America soccer player Breanna McMahon, the UCF women's soccer team raised over $800 to support the McMahon family during its two home victories. The Knights would like to thank all of the fans that came out to the UCF Soccer Complex to support Breanna.
"We are happy to be able to contribute to Breanna's recovery fund," said UCF head coach Amanda Cromwell. "It makes us proud that our fans came out not only to watch us play but help a local player that needs our help. The soccer community is very close and we are thrilled to help in any way we can, whether it is with monetary donations, the signed jersey or all of the encouragement we can provide. We hope Breanna will keep healing and keep fighting through the recovery process."
A goalkeeper for FHS, McMahon had to have her left leg amputated due to a serious accident during a fundraiser for her club team FC America. Several of her teammates were on hand for the Oct. 9 UCF win over UTEP to help collect donations for a trust account that has been set up at Old Southern Bank.
You can still help out the McMahon family by calling 407-420-3900.
After improving their record to 10-3-1 on the season by defeating UTEP and Colorado College and jumping to No. 14 in the Soccer America rankings (two other polls will be released Tuesday), the Knights will hit the road to face Rice Friday and Houston Sunday.
