ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - On Saturday, the UCF men's tennis team capped a successful three days at its home tournament with victories in three singles flights. Senior Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla.), junior Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.) and freshman Mario Samson (Miami, Fla.) were all victorious at the UCF Invitational at the UCF Tennis Complex.
The Knights faced players from South Carolina at the event. In Singles B Draw action, Schwartz eased to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Chris Sheehan to secure the flight title.
Sakey claimed the Singles C Draw crown after recording a win over a teammate. The senior posted a 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-3 victory over sophomore Eugene Dolgovykh (Palm Coast, Fla.). Playing against Harry Menzies in Singles D Draw competition, Samson was a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (3) winner.
UCF senior Marc Rocafort (Barcelona, Spain) also tallied a victory Saturday in Singles A Draw action, topping Ivan Machado (6-3, 6-2). South Carolina's Diego Cubas won that flight.
UCF head coach Bobby Cashman was pleased with his team's play Saturday, and throughout the entire event.
"We had another good day," he said. "I thought everyone played well. We have improved over the last couple of weeks as we have played more. It showed against some very good competition."
The three-day tournament began on Thursday afternoon.
The Knights will continue their fall season on Oct. 22, when play starts the ITA Regional Championships in Athens, Ga.
