ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's basketball team will hold an open tryout on Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. in the UCF practice facility, head coach Joi Williams announced Thursday.
All of those interested must contact associate head coach Greg Brown by noon on Sept. 14 to sign up. Participants must be full-time UCF students currently taking at least 12 hours and bring an official class schedule to the tryout.
In Williams' second season at the helm of the program, UCF posted a 17-17 overall mark and claimed the Conference USA tournament title in March. The Knights finished 11-5 in league play and tied for second. After the victory in the C-USA championship game, UCF advanced to the NCAA Tournament where it battled third-seeded North Carolina tough before falling 85-80.
UCF returns 10 letterwinners from the 2008-09 season, including all-conference players Emma Cannon (Rochester, N.Y.) and Chelsie Wiley (Riviera Beach, Fla.). Cannon and Wiley averaged 15.5 and 14.9 points respectively as sophomores a season ago, and both are on target to join the program's 1,000-point club in 2009-10.
