UCF Pitcher Dobbins Receives 2009 Conference USA Sportsmanship Award

Sept. 3, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF baseball player Brennan Dobbins (Longwood, Fla.) was one of four student-athletes selected for the 2009 Conference USA Sportsmanship Awards the league office announced Thursday. Dobbins joined Tulane's Andre Anderson (football), East Carolina's Abby Bools (golf) and Southern Miss' Aaron Ammons (track and field) as recipients for the prestigious honor.

"We are all extremely proud of Brennan and his representation of UCF and our baseball program," head coach Terry Rooney said. "He is the epitome of a student-athlete and demonstrates all of the qualities needed to be successful both on and off the field."

A junior pitcher for the Knights, Dobbins serves as the vice president for the UCF Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and has been named to the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll his first two seasons in a Black and Gold uniform. The righty has made 28-career appearances on the mound, and his best game in 2009 was a relief outing at North Florida in which he went 6.0 innings without allowing an earned run for the win.

"These student-athletes are a great representation of the outstanding displays of sportsmanship we see throughout our conference on a regular basis," C-USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky said. "We are extremely proud of their accomplishments and the example they set for both their teammates and opponents."
