ORLANDO, Fla. (www.UCFAthletics.com) - After helping the UCF football team to a victory over Buffalo this past Saturday night, quarterback Brett Hodges has been recognized as the Bright House Student-Athlete of the Week.
After transferring from Wake Forest this year, the fifth-year senior made his first start as a Knight in the Sept. 19 game against the Bulls. Hodges became only the fourth UCF quarterback to score a win in their first start in a Knights jersey.
With UCF trailing at halftime with a 17-7 deficit, Hodges executed plays in the second half that allowed the Knights to come from behind and end the game with a 23-17 victory. Hodges completed 10-of-10 passes in the second half, which included a 39-yard pass completion to Kamar Aiken on UCF's third-quarter touchdown drive. His 5-for-5 effort on UCF's game-winning field goal drive in the fourth quarter made all the difference for the UCF team. The quarterback rounded out the game 15-of-20 for 141 yards.
It was not only the quarterback's passing that was worthy of mention. He was also productive on his feet, totaling 71 rushing yards on 13 carries, the highest rushing total for a Knight since Rob Calabrese posted 86 last year against UTEP.
Said Buffalo coach Turner Gill, "The guy (Hodges) was a great runner and he moved the chains. He kept drives going and those kinds of drives were a killer for us.''
UCF heads to East Carolina this Saturday, Sept. 26, for a key C-USA match-up against the Pirates. Kick-off is slated for 3:30 p.m.
