ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's basketball team and UCF Arena will be showcased on ESPN2 on Jan. 17 when the Knights' Conference USA home game against UAB is televised live on national television. The Sunday contest is slated to start at 5 p.m.
"It is exciting for our program to have been selected to appear on ESPN2 this season," said head coach Joi Williams. "We appreciate ESPN2 giving us the opportunity to represent UCF women's basketball, our university and Conference USA while also showing off the state of the art UCF Arena to a national audience."
UCF appeared on ESPN2 on two occasions in 2008-09. The Knights defeated Southern Miss 65-54 in overtime on ESPN2 to claim the C-USA tournament title. UCF's first round game of the NCAA Tournament, an 85-80 defeat at the hands of third-seeded North Carolina, was also shown live on ESPN2. The UAB contest will be the first regular season UCF game televised by the ESPN family of networks.
In 2008-09, UCF swept its two meetings with UAB, defeating the Blazers 74-67 in Birmingham on Jan. 10 and 74-59 in Orlando on March 1. Chelsie Wiley (Riviera Beach, Fla.), now a junior, averaged 26 points per contest against UAB last season.
UCF's home schedule at UCF Arena will include non-conference tilts against Washington, Alabama, Florida State and Notre Dame as well as eight C-USA contests. The Knights full schedule of games is slated to be released in the near future.
Season tickets are currently with the UCF Ticket Office. Knight fans can purchase season tickets for each of the team's 14 home games for just $39.
Women's basketball season tickets can also be purchased with the UCF Gold Pass, which grants fans admission to every women's basketball home game as well as each volleyball and softball home contest. The UCF Gold Pass costs just $79 and saves fans a total of $34.
