Hubbard Selected as a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer of the Week

Sept. 2, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - It was a perfect opportunity to score her first-career goal for the UCF women's soccer team. Sophomore midfielder Stacie Hubbard (Jacksonville, Fla.) tallied the game-winner vs. then-No. 10 Duke Aug. 30 in the 87th minute, and her achievement was acknowledged by CollegeSoccer360.com as the website named her as one of 18 Primetime Performers of the Week.

In the second match of the Carolina Nike Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C., the Knights trailed Duke 1-0 at halftime before senior Courtney Whidden scored twice to put her team on top. Although the Blue Devils scored in the 85th minute to even it back up, UCF earned a corner kick just moments later and took advantage. On a perfect ball from senior Becca Thomas, Hubbard got into great position in front to head the ball off the crossbar and in for the clinching goal.

Hubbard had three assists last year as a defensive midfielder and was a member of the Conference USA All-Freshman Team. But it was her first goal of 2009 that gave the Black and Gold its first victory over a top-10 team since defeating No. 9 Rice in 2006.

CollegeSoccer360.com will select a maximum of 18 players a week (18 to resemble a travel squad) to honor the best student-athletes from across the country.

The Knights (2-1-0) are back in action this weekend at the USF Tournament when they face LSU Friday and Florida International Sunday.
