2009-10 UCF WOMEN'S GOLF SCHEDULE

ORLANDO, Fla. -

On the heels of two straight NCAA Regional appearances, the UCF women's golf team will continue to face many of the nation's best during the 2009-10 regular season while also adeptly mixing in several events which hopefully will allow the team to gain experience playing as a front-runner.

The first season under new head coach Courtney Trimble begins this upcoming weekend as the Knights head to Daytona Beach for the NGCA's Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship and hopefully will continue on through May 18-21 when the NCAA Championships will be held in Wilmington, N.C.

One highlight of the schedule, as usual, is the annual UCF Challenge, this year to be contested on March 1-2 at RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento. A year ago UCF placed a school-record second at the Conference USA Championship, an event that will be contested from April 18-20 this year at Southern Miss.

"Certainly the first tournament of the year is a very good field and the rest of the schedule is balanced as far as the strength of the fields," Trimble said of the slate. "I think it will give the team a pretty good feel for what they're going to be facing in post-season. I like the schedule a lot and look forward to the travel and competing in various areas of the country. We go to Kentucky for the Bettie Lou Evans in the fall which is a great event. In the spring, we are in Florida quite a bit for many of this great golf state's key events. We go to the Tiger/Wave Invitational in New Orleans and the Liz Murphey at Georgia which are good national-caliber fields. That will be great competition in mid-spring to get us ramped up for the rest of the post-season."

The Knights return three of the six members of the 2008-09 squad in senior Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium), junior Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn.) and sophomore Elisa Aoki (Bradenton, Fla.). Three new freshman will round out the 2009-10 team in Valentina Fontaine (Santiago, Chile), Carolin Pinegger (Marquartstein, Germany) and Sammy Vass (Tain, Scotland).
