Men's Tennis Opens Southern Intercollegiates

ATHENS, Ga. (UCFAthletics.com) - Four members of the UCF men's tennis team were in action Friday as the Knights began the fall campaign at the Southern Intercollegiates on the Georgia campus. Play will continue Saturday at the three-day tournament which includes the best players in the southeast.

UCF's biggest win on Friday might have come in the Division I doubles bracket where senior Marc Rocafort (Barcelona, Spain) and junior Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.) posted an 8-2 win in the round of 64 over Jamal Adderly and Romain Deridder of USF. The UCF pair will meet Torston Wietoska and David Holland of Duke in the round of 32 Saturday.

In singles action, Rocafort won his round of 128 match in the Division I bracket, defeating Daniel Hangstefer of Lipscomb (7-6 (2), 7-5). In the next round, he fell 6-3, 6-4 to eighth-seed John Peers of Middle Tennessee State.

Senior Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) also won his first match of the tournament. In the Division II singles round of 64, he rallied to top USF's Yannick Yoshi, 1-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4. He will meet Majin Ortiga of Georgia Tech today in the round of 32.

Sophomore Claudio Romano (Valencia, Venezuela) also participated in the tournament for the Knights on Friday.
