Sept. 12, 2009

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team posted a pair of strong rounds to open the 2009-10 campaign as the Knights are third after 36 holes at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate at the Wolf Run Country Club. Junior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) recorded the top individual performance for the Knights Saturday and is tied for third at 4-under 138.

Henriques posted a 3-under 68 in the second round after opening the tournament with a 1-under 70. The tournament will conclude with 18 holes Sunday.

As a team, the Knights finished the day at 7-over 575. Sixth-ranked Illinois leads the 17-team tournament. The Fighting Illini began the event with a 3-under 281. North Florida is second, one shot ahead of UCF.

Henriques, who did not compete for UCF a year ago, is one of two Knights in the top 15 in Indiana. Sophomore Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) carded an even-par 71 in the first round and is tied for 12th (144, +2).

Senior Simon Ward (County Monaghan, Ireland) is tied for 34th at 7-over 149. Freshman Andrew Colvin (Longwood, Fla.) and sophomore Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) both played for the Knights for the first time Saturday. Colvin is tied for 39th (8-over 150). A transfer from Louisville, Arendell enters the final round tied for 48th at 9-over 151.

The event is serving as the Knights' debut under Bryce Wallor, who was selected as UCF's head coach in August.
