Jeff Simmons receives Bright House Student Athlete of the Week

Sept. 8, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.UCFAthletics.com) - After an impressive start to his college career, scoring goals in each of his first two games, Jeff Simmons of the men's soccer team has been named UCF's Bright House Student-Athlete of the Week.

Simmons, a freshman forward from Monroeville, Pa., scored the Knights' lone goal against No. 11 USF on Tuesday with a header in the second half. He followed that on Friday with another goal, tallying the final marker of a 3-1 victory as UCF took on UNF at the UCF Fall Classic in Orlando. The goal was the second of two scored in the last ten minutes of the game to break a 1-1 tie and push the Knights to a win.

With the team having scored six goals in three games, already over a third of the Knights' 2008 total of 16, UCF is prepped for a strong season. The Knights take to the field again this Saturday, Sept. 12, at Jacksonville University. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
