Campaigne's Results at Canada Summer Games

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF women's rower Allisha Campaigne took home the gold medal in the Lightweight Double event Friday at the 2009 Canada Summer Games on Prince Edward Island. Campaigne represented her home province of Ontario in the regatta, rowing with teammate Alex Meiklejohn.

Campaigne opened competition at the Canada Summer Games Tuesday. Being placed in Heat Two, Campaigne and Meiklejohn defeated the field in convincing fashion with a time of 5:04.77, out-rowing second-place finisher, Quebec, by over 24 seconds.

With the pair's victory in the opening round of the competition, Campaigne earned a bye into the event final Friday. In the race for the gold, Campaigne once again dominated the competition to take home first-place honors, defeating sliver-medalist British Columbia by almost five seconds, clocking in at 4:35.83.

Campaigne, a native of Odessa, Ontario, joined 14 additional women's rowers on Team Ontario, including nine rowers that currently compete at the NCAA Division I level at universities such as Boston College, Indiana, Michigan State, Texas, Syracuse and Louisville.

The Canada Summer Games, which takes place every two years, features 18 different sports, and is intended to be a multi-sport and cultural event that brings together the best athletes and artists from each Canadian province and territory. The primary objective of the Canada Games is national and provincial sport development of Canadian youth.

Participation in the Canada Games also targets next generation National Team members and future Olympians.

As a freshman in 2009, Campaigne helped lead the Knights' varsity eight boat to a third-place finish in the South Region at the Aramark Sprints South/Central Regional Championships and to an overall 10th place finish at the regatta, after the squad competed in the Petite Final against some of the nation's top programs.
