ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Just one week of practices are left before the UCF women's soccer team kicks off its 2009 campaign at home Aug. 21 at 6 p.m. against a Florida Gulf Coast team that went 10-4-3 last year. The Knights, who reached the 2008 NCAA Tournament Second Round and finished with a 14-6-3 record, went right to work on the practice field Friday afternoon, and to access the photo gallery from the workout, click on the link above.
UCF demonstrated just how much talent is returning in its 1-0 exhibition win over Rollins Aug. 13. The Black and Gold outshot the Tars, 29-4, with senior Yvonne George pacing all players with six shots. While several of the veterans stepped up, it was a few of the freshmen that stood out as well. Nicolette Radovcic's late goal proved to be the game-winner and Bianca Joswiak came off the bench and posted three shots, two on goal.
Even though the match was delayed by an hour and half and it was just a scrimmage, over 200 fans attended the Knights' victory.
Admission to all of UCF's home matches is free this year, and when the Knights battle the Eagles in the season-opener, fans will be able to pick up free posters and schedule cards as well.
