Aug. 10, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - New UCF men's golf head coach Bryce Wallor announced Monday that Toby Ragland has been hired as the Knights' assistant coach. Ragland recently concluded a stellar career as a student-athlete at Florida.

A native of Jacksonville, Ragland appeared in 11 tournaments for the Gators in 2008-09. He posted a pair of top-five finishes, including the title at the Gator Invitational in February. After the victory, he earned Golfweeek National Player of the Week honors. He tied for 23rd at the NCAA Southwest Regional, helping the Gators take first at the tournament. Ragland also competed at the NCAA Championship, marking his third time participating in the event.

"I have known Toby for four years. He is a fantastic young man," Wallor said. "Toby is a terrific golfer. He was a great student-athlete. I am really excited to have him around our student-athletes. I think he is going to be a great role model."

Ragland earned his bachelor's degree in community health education. This past spring, Ragland earned All-America Scholar recognition from the Golf Coaches Association of America. He was named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll three times during his career.

During his time in Gainesville, Ragland competed in 41 tournaments. He posted a 73.74 career stroke average and had 37 rounds of even or under par.

Ragland registered a pair of top-50 finishes at the NCAA Championship. As a sophomore he tied for 29th. In 2006, the freshman tied for 50th at the event.

During his collegiate career, Ragland also had success in several amateur tournaments, finishing 14th at the 2007 Players Amateur and tying for 23rd that same year at the Jones Cup.

After five successful seasons as an assistant at Tennessee, Wallor was hired as UCF's head coach on July 23.
