ORLANDO, Fla. - UCF football senior wide receiver Rocky Ross (Jacksonville, Fla.) is one of 106 student-athletes from all levels of competition who have been nominated for the Allstate/AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) Good Works Team. The final 11-man squad will recognize those in college football who also make outstanding contributions in the areas of volunteerism and civic involvement.
Ross has participated in numerous outreach events during his time as a Knight, including the Orange County Public Schools Transition Program, Florida Children's Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, the Ronald McDonald House and St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Ross graduated in four years with a 3.053 GPA, receiving his degree in criminal justice in May. He will pursue a master's degree in sports leadership this fall. Ross is a two-time member of the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. He is a member of the UCF Dean's List, Athletic Director's Honor Roll and the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.
The team's lone senior wide receiver, Ross continued to provide great leadership to that group, even last season while sitting out the final eight games with a fractured clavicle. He played in each of the first 43 games of his career before that injury suffered last Sept. 27 at UTEP, earning a medical hardship waiver to return for a fifth season. UCF's most experienced receiver and an All-Conference USA candidate, he has helped UCF to the first two bowl berths in school history (2005 and 2007). Ross was the leading receiver with both 50 catches and 658 yards in 2007 as UCF captured its first ever C-USA Championship and played in the Liberty Bowl. He was by far UCF's top target in 2008 as well at the time of his injury. Ross has made 116 career catches for 1,523 yards and five touchdowns while at UCF.
