Sosa Helps Puerto Rico Place 6th at FIBA Championship

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (UCFAthletics.com) - Sophomore guard Isaac Sosa (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) of the UCF men's basketball team helped Puerto Rico finish sixth out of 16 teams at the FIBA U19 World Championship. In nine games at the tournament, which concluded Sunday, Sosa averaged 9.6 points.

Puerto Rico went 5-4 at the championship. Sosa averaged 19.1 minutes in New Zealand. He connected on 18-of-39 attempts from 3-point range, good for 46.2 percent, which ranked 10th among all tournament competitors.

In Sunday's fifth-place game, Sosa scored 11 points in 18 minutes as Argentina posted a 92-70 win over Puerto Rico. Sosa hit a pair of 3-pointers in the contest and also had three rebounds and two steals.

Sosa was Puerto Rico's third-leading scorer at the event behind Mike Rosario of Rutgers (24.0) and Jio Fontan of Fordham (13.3).

Sosa had two of his best games in Auckland at the start of the tournament. He shot 4-of-6 from deep and totaled 18 points in Puerto Rico's win over Lithuania to open the event. The following day, he made 6-of-7 attempts from 3-point range and finished with 20 points versus Greece.

As a freshman in 2008-09 for the Knights, Sosa appeared in all 31 contests and averaged 8.2 points. He made eight starts and shot 45.2 percent from deep (57-of-126).
