Three Former Knights To Play in CFL this year

July 1, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. - Today, July 1, is Canada Day, the national holiday of our neighbors to the north. It is also the opening day of the Canadian Football League season and three former UCF players will be playing in the CFL this year. Cedric Gagne-Marcoux is a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Taylor Robertson plays for the Toronto Argonauts and Keith Shologan will suit up for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Gagne-Marcoux and Robertson are both expected to start at right guard for their respective teams tonight as Hamilton and Toronto play in the league opener at 7:00 p.m. in the Tiger-Cats' Ivor Wynne Stadium. Gagne-Marcoux is in his third year in the CFL (all for Hamilton) but has played sparingly due to injury. Robertson is in his seventh Canadian pro season and third in Toronto where he has been a fixture in the lineup. Gagne-Marcoux is a native of Sherbrooke, Que. while Robertson hails from Kingston, Ont.

Shologan saw plenty of playing time at defensive tackle in the Roughriders' two preseason games and will look for more of the same when Saskatchewan opens its 2009 campaign at home on Friday night against the BC (British Columbia) Lions. Shologan is a native of Edmonton, Alta. And was named to the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-America team as a senior in 2007, helping UCF to the Conference USA Championship and a berth in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl. He was recently profiled in the Regina Leader Post.
