July 6, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's basketball team will compete in an event close to home this November as the Knights are slated to participate in the Glenn Wilkes Classic in Daytona Beach. UCF will face Auburn, Niagara and Drake at the 10-team tournament.

UCF season ticket holders will receive complimentary tickets to watch the Knights play at the event. Season tickets are expected to go on sale soon.

All three of the squads that the Knights will face at the Ocean Center played in the postseason in 2009.

UCF will meet Auburn on Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. The Tigers went 24-12 this past season and advanced to the quarterfinals of the postseason National Invitation Tournament. The Knights will be facing Auburn for the first time since 1998.

After meeting the Tigers, UCF will play Niagara at 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 21. In 2008-09, Niagara posted a 26-9 overall mark. The squad also played in the postseason NIT. UCF and the Purple Eagles last met in 2003.

UCF will close the Glenn Wilkes Classic against Drake on Nov. 22. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. The Bulldogs were 17-16 last year. Drake participated in the inaugural CollegeInsider.com Tournament and will be facing the Knights for the first time.

The Knights will begin the event on Nov. 18, hosting Howard at the UCF Arena.

Other teams participating in the Glenn Wilkes Classic include Akron, Austin Peay, Georgia State, IUPUI and NC State. The tournament is in its third year. Utah claimed the title a year ago. The event is organized by Sport Tours International.

UCF will be playing at an in-season tournament in Florida for the second time in three years. In 2007-08, the Knights faced Villanova, Kansas State and Penn State at the Old Spice Classic in nearby Lake Buena Vista.

Season-ticket deposits for the 2009-10 UCF men's basketball campaign are currently being accepted. For more information, visit UCFAthletics.com or call (407) UCF-1000.
