ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After leading the Knights to one of the most successful seasons in school history, three members of the 15th-ranked UCF men's golf team are rated among the top-100 players in the country. The three golfers - freshman Blayne Barber (Lake City, Fla.), senior David Johnson (Palm Bay, Fla.) and junior Simon Ward (County Monaghan, Ireland) - helped the Knights tie for 10th at the NCAA Championship last week.
A national all-freshman team selection, Barber is 21st in the final Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. The Conference USA Golfer and Freshman of the Year, he competed in 12 events, recording nine top-10 finishes. Barber tied for seventh at the NCAA Championship at 1-under 212.
Johnson, who played in all 13 of UCF's tournaments and posted three top-10 finishes, is 74th in the rankings. He had 15 rounds of par or better. Johnson was an All-C-USA Second Team selection.
Ward concluded the campaign as the 84th-rated player in the country. The C-USA Newcomer of the Year, he registered two victories during his first season in Orlando. One of the wins helped the Knights take the C-USA title for the first time.
The trio helped UCF record four tournament victories during the campaign. The four wins were the most for the Knights since the 1989-90 season.
