ORLANDO, Fla. - The two graduated seniors from this past year's NCAA Regional-qualifying UCF women's golf team, Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md.) and Mayule Tomimbang (Kissimmee, Fla.) are both trying to make their way onto the LPGA Tour, playing in events on the Duramed FUTURES Tour.
Connelly, who previously played three events on the tour as an amateur from 2002-06, made the cut in each of her first two professional events. Connelly made her professional debut in the Ladies Titan Tire Challenge on June 5 in Marion, Iowa and carded a 68 to tie for second on the day on the strength of a back-nine 33. Connelly would finish the three-day event with a 54-hole 217 (+1) to tie for 23rd place. Connelly also shot a 217 two weeks later at The Duramed Championship in Mason, Ohio to tie for 39th place overall. In her third event, Connelly missed the cut by two strokes at the Horseshoe Casino Classic in Hammond, Ind. June 26-28, shooting a final round 70 but falling just shy of the 36-hole line. She is carrying a 72.88 stroke average through her first eight rounds as a pro.
Tomimbang shot a 153 in her tour debut at the Michelob ULTRA Duramed FUTURES Players Championship, June 11-14 in Decatur, Ill. She then fired a 152 at The Duramed Championship and a 154 at the Horseshoe Casino Classic, missing the cut each time. Her 74 in the second round of the Horseshoe Casino Classic is her low thus far on tour.
The next event on the tour schedule is the ING New England Golf Classic on July 17-19 in Bloomfield, Conn.
