PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Blayne Barber (Lake City, Fla.) of the UCF men's golf team claimed the title at the Florida State Amateur Championship Sunday at the TPC at Sawgrass. Barber, who garnered All-America second team honors as a freshman in 2008-09, concluded the four-round event at 11-under 277.
He carded a 2-under 70 in the final round. Barber finished first in a field of 168 golfers. He ended the tournament nine strokes ahead of Blake Soni, who placed second at 2-under 286.
During the season, Barber helped the Knights tie for 10th at the NCAA Championship, tying for seventh at the 30-team tournament. He recorded nine top-10 finishes. The Conference USA Golfer and Freshman of the Year, Barber finished the season by placing in the top 10 in eight-consecutive events.
In addition to garnering PING All-America Second Team recognition, Barber was named to the Golf Coaches Association of America National All-Freshman Team and earned a spot on the GCAA All-Southeast Region Team.
Barber had 20 rounds of par or better play during the campaign and paced the Knights with a 71.14 stroke average.
Former UCF star David Johnson, who concluded his career this spring, tied for 31st (204, +4).
