UCF Summer Football Preview - Miami

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF will host in-state rival Miami for the first series meeting at Bright House Networks Stadium on Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. With last season's tough loss against the Hurricanes, UCF is determined to earn a win at home.

Last year marked Miami's 83rd competitive football season. Within that time frame, Miami has posted winning records in 56 seasons. The Hurricanes completed the 2008 campaign 7-5 and finished fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Miami played in the Emerald Bowl marking its 33rd bowl appearance.

Offensive Player to Watch
Javarris James, a junior running back from Immokalee, Fla., is one of Miami's top rushers. Despite missing four games last season due to injury, James was Miami's second-leading rusher, rushing 62 times for 286 yards, totaling four touchdowns, and catching 11 passes for 118 yards. At NC State, James scored on two 1-yard touchdown runs while matching a career-high with four receptions for 35 yards.

Defensive Player to Watch
The ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year, linebacker Sean Spence finished the season with numerous honors including: Collegefootballnews.com Freshman All-American, Rivals.com.com Freshman All-American First Team and Phil Steele Freshman All-America Second Team. He totaled 82 tackles during the year.

Knights Fall Short
On Oct. 11, 2008, UCF and Miami met in the Dolphin Stadium to compete for the first time. Black and gold fans filled the stadium, excited to watch the Knights take on the Hurricanes. Both teams combined for 22 total first downs and the Knights' two touchdowns came on returns as the Hurricanes held on for a 20-14 victory.
