UCF Track & Field to Host UCF Twilight Sunday

May 8, 2009

Meet Information

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF track and field team will conclude a successful outdoor regular season on Sunday at home, welcoming a strong field of competitors to the UCF Track & Field Complex for the UCF Twilight. The event is the third the Knights have hosted this season.

The meet gets underway in the late morning with the hammer throw, which will be followed by the rest of the field events. The running events portion of the meet begins at 4 p.m. with the 4x100-meter relay and will conclude with the 4x400-meter relay at 7:10 p.m.

Eight other collegiate women's teams will join UCF in making up the field while seven men's college teams also will compete in the event. In addition, there will be numerous professional runners with experience competing in national and Olympic meets.

The Knights will look to continue a 2009 campaign which has produced numerous NCAA regional qualifying marks and school records. In the last weekend of competition, junior Kelsey Poljansek (Milton, Kan.) became the first Knight to ever surpass 170 feet in the discus, posting a school record with a toss of 170-2/51.86m at the Pumping Iron Discus Classic.

At the Penn Relays in Philadelphia the same weekend, the victory by the shuttle hurdles relay team highlighted the event, besting the previous school record by over one second. Two members of that relay, junior Tiki James (Miami, Fla.) and freshman Jackie Coward (Knoxville, Tenn.), also each posted NCAA qualifying marks and made the finals of the 100-meter hurdles Championships of America. James posted a school record in the event with a time of 13.20 in the preliminaries.

The UCF Twilight serves as the final tune-up before the Conference USA Championships, which will take place May 14-16 in Tulsa, Okla.
