ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - In the final Campbell/ITA Tennis Ranking, sophomore Jenny Frisell (Gothenburg, Sweden) and senior Elvira Serrot (Madrid, Spain) of the UCF women's tennis team are listed No. 59th nationally. The poll came out on Friday recognizing the top-90 doubles teams in the country.
Head coach Stephanie Nickitas joined Frisell and Serrot together prior to the team's Feb. 13 match against Georgia Southern. The tandem promptly rattled off six-consecutive matches, including two over ranked opponents and finished with a 12-4 overall record at the No. 1 position for the Knights.
In their first of back-to-back victories over top doubles teams, the duo brought down the No. 33 squad from NC State of Berkeley Brock and Lenka Hojckova, 8-4. Only four days later, eventual national champion Duke was welcomed to the UCF Tennis Complex with the No. 11 doubles pair of Melissa Mang and Amanda Granson, who were dispatched 8-3 by Frisell and Serrot. These two victories propelled the team to Conference USA Player of the Week honors on March 10.
The doubles team broke into the Campbell/ITA Tennis Rankings on March 17 holding the No. 27 position. Throughout the season, the pair was ranked in the top 50 of the bi-weekly rankings.
The women's tennis team finished with a 12-10 record during the dual-match season.
