UCF Football Summer Player Update - Travis Timmons

May 29, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. - Travis Timmons helped solidify the UCF defensive line last fall becoming an integral part of a group that helped UCF lead Conference USA in rushing defense and rank second in total defense and scoring defense last fall.

Timmons played in 11 games last year, making 14 stops, two of which were for a loss. He also forced a fumble, recovered a fumble and was credited with two quarterback hurries. The Gainesville native and Buchholz graduate came out of spring practice as a likely starter at defensive tackle alongside Torrell Troup.

For season ticket information to see Timmons and the Knights in their seven home games this upcoming fall, please contact the Athletic Ticket Office at (407) 823-1000 or go to the tickets page here at UCFAthletics.com.

How important are offseason workouts?
"The offseason condition definitely helps when you go into the following season. The preparation of getting your body right, getting stronger, getting faster and being able to better deal with fatigue is crucial. Our offseason program will pay off. When it comes to fourth down in the fourth quarter with the game on this line, this is where you win the game."

What classes do you have right now?
"I'm taking hospitality management. It's interesting. I thought I was going to just going to do it as an elective but I'm really glad that I got it. It's about the business side of running casinos and hotels. The Oceans movies are some of my favorites and I see how it works now. It's good money and it's very interesting. It may be something to look into."

Just as it is important to stay in physical shape over the summer, how important is it to take classes over the summer?
"It's important. Getting ahead academically in the summer has helped me be on pace to graduate early."
