May 27, 2009

TOLEDO, Ohio (UCFAthletics.com) - Despite not completing the second round due to a long rain delay, the 16th-ranked UCF men's golf team moved to a tie for ninth Wednesday at the NCAA Championship at the Inverness Club. As a team, the Knights completed the day 1-over par.

UCF entered the second round in 17th at 16-over 300. The Knights are now tied with Tennessee (583) for ninth at 15-over.

Due to a four-hour rain delay, only 15 of the 30 teams in action were able to play all 18 holes Wednesday. The delay occurred before the Knights started their round.

UCF redshirt freshman Brad Schneider played 16 holes and concluded the day 4-under. At 2-over, he is tied for 23rd, as is freshman Blayne Barber (Lake City, Fla.). Barber has four holes to play before finishing the round.

Junior Simon Ward (County Monaghan, Ireland) is tied for 61st at 6-over. Senior David Johnson (Palm Bay, Fla.) has two holes to go and was 1-over Wednesday. Johnson is tied for 85th, while junior Devin Spies (Sarasota, Fla.) is tied for 119th.

Fourth-ranked Oklahoma State is first at 568 (E). The Cowboys carded a 4-under 280 in the second round.

The second round will continue at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, with third-round action slated to start at 10 a.m.

Thursday will mark the end of stroke play. After the third round, the top-eight teams advance to match play, which will conclude Saturday.

On Wednesday, UCF was paired with Oregon and Texas Tech for the second-consecutive day.

Alex Ching of San Diego got through 11 holes during the second round and leads the field at 6-under.

Toledo is serving as the championship host. Live statistics for the event are available on Golfstat.com.
