Javier Garners NFCA All-Mideast Region First Team Accolades

May 14, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced Thursday that UCF softball first baseman Breanne Javier (Castaic, Calif.) garnered Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Mideast Region First Team honors, becoming only the sixth Knight in program history to be named to an all-region team.

"I am very proud and excited that Bre was selected to the All-Region First Team," head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie said. "She has worked extremely hard over the past four years to push our program where it is today and this award is a tribute to all the dedication and leadership that she has provided this team."

This year, the NFCA elected to have just one team per region (First Team), although the team has the same number of members of the previous year's first and second teams combined. This change allows the regional representatives more leeway in presenting candidates for All-America selection.

Earlier in the month, Javier received All-Conference USA honors for the third-straight season when league coaches voted her onto the All-C-USA Second Team. The senior was previously selected to the All-C-USA First Team in both 2007 and 2008 and to the C-USA Championship All-Tournament Team the same two seasons. Javier was also named to the Preseason All-C-USA team prior to the start of the 2009 season.

This season, Javier batted .318 for the Knights with 57 hits, including 10 doubles, two home runs and a team-best 34 RBI. The first baseman also paced the Black and Gold in three defensive categories and helped her team turn a nation-best 32 double plays.

Javier finishes her career ranked in the top-five at UCF in 15 career categories and in the top-10 in 24 single-season categories.

A native of Castaic, Calif., Javier is the first UCF infielder to earn all-region honors since Stephanie Best was named to the second team in 2005. The Knights' former shortstop, Best also made the all-region second team in 2004 and was a first-team selection in 2003.

Jania Shinhoster was the first Knight to be named to the all-region first team in 2002, while pitcher Allison Kime was a two-time first-team selection in both 2007 and 2008. Lindsay Enders and Dottie Cupp round out the Black and Gold honorees named to all-region teams, as they were second-team selections in 2005 and 2002, respectively.
