May 11, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Head coach Todd Dagenais announced Monday that junior outside hitter Brittanie Wallace (Huntsville, Texas) will be joining the UCF volleyball team for the 2009 season.

A transfer from Sam Houston State, Wallace played in 58 matches and totaled 409 kills in two seasons with the Bearcats. The junior also tallied 85 total blocks, 277 digs and 33 service aces in her career at Sam Houston State.

"UCF is excited to welcome Brittanie to our volleyball family," Dagenais said. "She has played for one of the most competitive club volleyball programs in the nation (Austin Juniors), and her two years of collegiate experience will be a huge asset to a team that will be very young this season."

In her sophomore season, Wallace was named Southland Conference All-Academic honorable mention for her play on the court and for also maintaining a 3.90 GPA as a business major. She had 120 kills, 73 digs and six service aces in 28 matches played in her sophomore campaign, while posting two double-digit kill performances during the season. Wallace registered a double-double with 10 kills and a season-high 12 digs in the win over Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, and totaled a season-best 11 kills against Evansville.

"We look forward to Brittanie coming in and helping our captains in terms of leadership and experience," Dagenais said. "Her accomplishments in the classroom will also serve as an example to our younger players."

As a freshman for the Bearcats in 2007, Wallace ranked second on the team in kills (289, 2.75 per game) and posted double digit kills in 15 matches, while totaling a season-best 21 kills against Central Arkansas, McNeese State, and UT-Arlington. The Texas native also produced double-digit digs in seven contests with a season-high 18 against both UT-Arlington and Texas A&M - Corpus Christi.

"Brittany is a very athletic outside hitter who can also help us in ball control and passing," Dagenais said.

Wallace graduated from Vista Ridge High School in 2006, where she played under the direction of head coach Kim Fuller. During her four seasons at Vista Ridge, Wallace was named all-state, all-central Texas and all-district as an outside hitter, while also leading her team to a Texas Class 4A state runner-up finish.

While playing for the Austin Juniors club team, Wallace was name to the Junior Olympics All-Tournament Team.
