UCF Baseball Sets Yet Another Record in the Classroom

May 11, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF baseball team, which already set the program record with a 3.2 grade-point average in the fall for its highest combined GPA in history, was back at it in the classroom this spring. All while playing a difficult regular-season schedule, the Knights boasted a 3.1 team GPA, their best spring mark since the program's inception.

The 3.1 cumulative 2008-09 season GPA is also the highest average on record for the Black and Gold.

"I'm extremely proud of the efforts of this team academically," said first-year head coach Terry Rooney. "By the guys achieving the highest cumulative season GPA in the history of the program demonstrates our commitment to being the best both on and off the field. Our academic advisor Jennifer Alger deserves most of the credit for her hard work in helping the team achieve this record performance."

This past semester, a total of 23 Knights on this year's roster earned spots on the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll for having a GPA of at least 3.0. That list includes senior Gil Gomez and freshman Austin Smith, who were selected to receive the C-USA Academic Medal, handed out to student-athletes who have a GPA of 3.75 or higher.
