ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After a strong performance at the Adminstaff Augusta State Invitational, UCF freshman Blayne Barber (Lake City, Fla.) earned Conference USA Men's Golfer of the Week honors Wednesday. Barber tied for third in Augusta, Ga., recording an 8-under 208.
He opened the event with a 4-under 68 and carded a 2-under 70 in both the second and third rounds. In a tournament that included seven of the top-50 ranked teams in the country, the No. 15 Knights finished tied for fourth in the 17-squad field.
Barber has posted top-10 finishes in four-consecutive events for UCF. The rookie has competed in eight of the team's nine events in 2008-09.
The C-USA weekly honor was the third of the year for Barber. He shared the award with Roger Sloan of UTEP.
Barber and the Knights are slated to return to action Sunday at the Bluegrass Invitational in Lexington, Ky. Starting April 19, UCF will host the C-USA Championship at the RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento.
