Abby McClain Earns Her Second Bright House Student-Athlete of the Week Award

April 6, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Abby McClain is becoming Ms. Clutch for the UCF softball team. This week she batted .545 with a game-winning RBI, her second of the season. The last time it helped her earn Bright House Student-Athlete of the Week, an honor she has now won twice.

The sophomore went 6-for-11 this week with a .727 slugging percentage and a .583 on base percentage. McClain posted two three-hit performances in the three-game series vs. Southern Miss, giving her eight on the season, a feat that no other Knight has ever achieved. She was a perfect 3-for-3 in the opener with a RBI and a run scored and 3-for-5 in the series finale with two doubles, two RBI and one run scored. The second of the two doubles was a walk-off game-winner, coming with two outs in the eighth.

Abby accomplished the same feat earlier this season in Jacksonville when she also hit a game-winning RBI double in the eighth. She is currently leading the team in hitting (.354), hits (45), runs (26), doubles (12), and triples (3).

The Knights are back in action Wednesday when they make the short trip to DeLand for a match-up with Stetson. The game, scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m., will be televised on Bright House Sports Network.
