UCF Rowing Sweeps Duke in Home Regatta

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's rowing team opened the UCF Intercollegiate Rowing Center Saturday in perfect form, sweeping Duke in five events in the inaugural regatta at the newly-completed facility.

The regatta kicked-off at 9 a.m. with the second varsity eight crew of Lauren Patton, Elizabeth Robinson, Allisha Campaigne, Samantha Sarff, Stephanie Adams, Tara Rogers, Jordynn Pauls, Emma Gresson and Lauren Hampson out-rowing the Blue Devils with a time of 6:42.7. Duke would finish with a time of 6:44.3.

In the second event of the day, the Knights' novice four boat clocked in 8:07.4, which was 14.1 seconds ahead of the Duke squad, who finished in 8:21.5.

Three Black and Gold boats competed in the varsity four race, with UCF's first varsity four squad picking up the win with a time of 7.32.8. Duke narrowly defeated the Knights' second varsity four to finish in second place, crossing the finish line in 7:44.6, two-tenths of a second ahead of UCF's 7:44.8, and the third varsity four completed the race in 7:57.8.

With a time of 6:37.8, the fastest finish of the day, the varsity eight crew of Brittany Skidmore, Alison Davis, Samantha MIller, Chelsey Lauzon, Danielle Leen, Leah VanLear, Katherine Krueger, Erin Bernier and Taylor Wiatt defeated the Blue Devils by over 10 seconds, with Duke finishing in 6:47.99.

In the regatta finale, the Knights' novice eight crew remained undefeated, crossing the finish line in 6:44.8, six seconds ahead of the Duke boat that finished in 6:50.89.

The rowing team is back in action on April 11, when it travels to Charlottesville, Va., for the Virginia Invitational.
