Round Two Results and Round Three Tee Times in PDF Format
SORRENTO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Battling windy conditions throughout the day, the 19th-ranked UCF men's golf team maintained its lead at the Conference USA Championship Monday at the RedTail Golf Club. The Knights enter the final round at 565 (-11), four strokes ahead of second-place SMU (569, -7).
UCF junior Simon Ward (County Monaghan, Ireland) carded a 3-under 68 during the second round and is now tied with freshman teammate Blayne Barber (Lake City, Fla.) and UAB's Zack Sucher for first at 7-under 137. Barber and Sucher, the defending tournament champion, both recorded 2-under 69s Monday.
Four of UCF's five golfers are listed in the top-20 individually as senior David Johnson (Palm Bay, Fla.) is tied for 17th (145, +1) and redshirt freshman Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) is tied for 19th (146, +2).
With two Knights still on the course, the round was delayed for about 40 minutes in the afternoon due to lightning and heavy rain.
SMU had the top team score of the day, finishing at 285 (-3). UAB enters the final round in third at 3-under 573, followed by East Carolina and Memphis at 580 (+4).
The Knights entered the day in first, five strokes ahead of second-place SMU. UCF sophomore Jed Dirksen (Hampton, Iowa) is 40th after 36 holes (152, +8).
UCF is hosting the tournament along with the Central Florida Sports Commission. UCF will tee off at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday. Admission is free at the RedTail Golf Club.
