ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Gevenia "Ne" Carter, who signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play women's basketball at UCF in November, was named the most valuable player at the Greater Houston Area Girls Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game after a strong performance last Saturday.
In leading the Terry Farrell All-Stars to a 69-66 victory over the Pat McKenna All-Stars, Carter scored 13 points in the contest. A Westfield High School product, Carter averaged 17.7 points, 7.1 steals, 5.9 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game as a senior. The 5'6" point guard also knocked down 53 three-pointers and posted three triple-doubles during the campaign. She was selected to the all-state team following the season.
Carter is the 61st ranked player in the Class of 2009 according to the ESPNU HoopGurlz Top 100. The first top 100 recruit for the UCF women's basketball program, Carter is the lone early commitment in the top 100 of the class to sign with a Conference USA institution.
She is the 12th-ranked guard nationally and the top ranked guard in the state of Texas. She is the sixth-ranked player overall from Texas, a state with three of the top five recruits in the country. Carter drew interest from numerous top-notch programs, including Texas A&M, Kansas, Kansas State, Houston and Rice.
Carter is also slated to play in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) All-Star Game on May 8 in San Antonio, Texas.
