UCF Rowing to Face Nation's Elite at Lake Natoma Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF rowing team will face some of the most elite teams in the nation this weekend when they travel to Rancho Cordova, Calif., to compete in the Lake Natoma Invitational.

The event will pit the Knights' varsity eight crew against No. 2 Stanford, host No. 3 California, No. 19 UCLA and Tennessee, who was receiving votes in the latest poll. The Black and Gold will also have to opportunity to go head-to-head with No. 16 Wisconsin, No. 20 Minnesota, Sacramento State and Texas in the two-day regatta in the finals on Sunday.

UCF will get things started on Saturday morning against the Golden Bears and the Lady Volunteers beginning at 8:20 a.m. with the varsity four race, before the second varsity eight event gets underway at 8:50 a.m. for the Knights. The varsity eight boat of coxswain Lauren Patton, Liz Robinson, Samantha MIller, Chelsey Lauzon, Samantha Sarff, Leah VanLear, Katherine Krueger, Erin Bernier and Allisha Campaigne will take to the water at 9:20 a.m., and the novice eight crew will finish up the morning session with a race at either 9:50 or 10 a.m.

In the second half of the day, the Knights will battle the Cardinal and the Bruins beginning at 3 p.m. with coxswain Victoria Ortiz, Jessica Veeneman, Amanda Schimian, Tanis Franchuk and Emma Gresson working UCF's varsity four boat. The second varsity eight race will follow at 3:30 p.m., before the varsity eight crew completes the opening day of the invitational at 4 p.m.

Teams will accrue points throughout the day Saturday using the NCAA point structure which will determine the lineups for the finals on Sunday (A final 1-3, B final 4-6, C final 7-9). The novice events do not accrue points.
