Women's Golf Signs Two To NLIs

April 16, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. - UCF women's golf head coach Emilee Klein on Thursday announced that Carolin Pinegger (Marquartstein, Germany) and Sammy Vass (Tain, Scotland) have each signed national letters of intent to join the UCF program for next year.

Pinegger is a member of the Austrian National Team and finished third last year in the Austrian national championship. She has trained at the IMG Academy in Bradenton and had a good level of success playing in the Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT). Pinegger won the championship of the 2008 FCWT Candler Hills and placed third at both the 2008 FCWT Plantation Inn Open and the 2009 FCWT Mission Inn. She was named a second team FCWT All-American in 2008.

Vass is a member of the Scottish National Team. She has been a semifinalist in the Scottish Under 18 Championship. She was the Scotland Northern Counties Girls Champion and the Highland Junior Open Champion. Vass also won the Tain Golf Club's junior and ladies medals at several different levels.

"I'm very excited to have both Carolin and Sammy coming to UCF," Klein said. "They are both going to be huge assets to the team. They are both wonderful girls who are also excellent players. Carolin hits the ball long and has a good short game. She has a lot of desire and heart and the same is true with Sammy. She has an excellent short game and is somebody who is going to make a great impact on the team."

Pinegger and Vass join Valentina Fontaine (Santiago, Chile), who signed her NLI in November, and all ready-enrolled fall signee Elisa Aoki (Bradenton, Fla.) to give the Knights an exceptional year of recruiting.

"I think that with the four of them, we will be a young team overall but we'll have a lot of strength in different areas," Klein said. "We will have a team of girls who know how to win and know what it takes to get to the next level. Even though people are going to look at us as being young, they will have a lot of strength from past experience."
