Blayne Barber is Awarded Bright House Student Athlete of the Week For Top Five Finish

April 13, 2009

Orlando, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - While most of the golf world was watching the pros bring their best to The Masters this past weekend, UCF freshman Blayne Barber (Lake City, Fla.) also came to play at the UK Bluegrass Invitational. His personal top five finish, and the Knights' third-place overall finish, earned Barber the Bright House Student-Athlete of the Week.

Barber shot a 74 and a 75 in the first and second rounds, respectively, then concluded the tournament by shooting an even-par 72. The freshman totaled a 221 (+5) on host Kentucky's Big Blue Course. Overall he helped UCF shoot an 896 (+32), behind only Kentucky's 880 (+16) and Western Carolina's 890 (+26).

Barber has now recorded a top-10 finish in five consecutive events and is hitting well at the right time with the Conference USA Championship right around the corner. The three-day, 54-hole event will begin April 19, and will be hosted by the 15th-ranked Knights at RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento.
