Women's Golf Opens C-USA Championship on Sunday

April 11, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. - Like all teams, the UCF women's golf team spends the season preparing for the postseason. It arrives on Sunday for the Knights who are ready to tee off in the opening round of the Conference USA Championship. Play features single rounds of 18 holes on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at Tulsa Country Club, a par-72, 6,140-yard track.

The host Golden Hurricane is the defending champion of the event. The Knights have been consistent in their C-USA placements since joining the league. UCF placed third in 2006 and 2007 while finishing fourth in 2008.

UCF will have a pair of seniors at the top of the lineup this weekend in Mayule Tomimbang (Kissimmee, Fla.) and Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md.) both of whom earned All-Conference USA accolades last year. Freshman Elisa Aoki (Bradenton, Fla.) will get her first taste of league play this weekend. Sophomore Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn.), named on Thursday to the C-USA All-Academic Team, is slotted fourth for UCF while junior Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium) is also in UCF's lineup for the event.
