CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF rowing team had a tough test Saturday, as it faced two ranked opponents, No. 13 Virginia and No. 16 Clemson, on Lake Monticello at the Virginia Invitational. The Knights' novice eight crew earned the only win of the day, defeating the Cavaliers' second novice eight boat with a time of 6:53.5.

The Black and Gold faced the Tigers in the opening half of the event, with the second varsity four boat posting a time of 7:58.2, behind Clemson's 7:48.3, in the first race against the Tigers. The second varsity eight followed, getting narrowly edged by Clemson by only 5.6 seconds. The Knights crossed the finish in 6:51.9, while the Tigers posted a time of 6:46.3.

UCF's varsity four also put up a fight against Clemson's top four boat, finishing the race only 2.3 seconds behind the Tigers, clocking in at 7:48.3.

The morning session concluded with the teams' varsity eight boats going head-to-head. The Knights would finish in a time of 6:54.9, with the 16th-ranked Tigers crossing just ahead in a time of 6:39.7.

Following a short intermission, the Black and Gold hit the water again to face host Virginia. UCF would fall just short in all four of the events, but the varsity eight crew posted its fastest time of the day in the finale against the 13th-ranked Cavaliers, clocking in with a time of 6:49.8.

The Knights are back in action next weekend when they travel to Rancho Cardova, Calif., to participate in the Lake Natoma Invitational.
