UCF Closes its Regular Season at Stetson Saturday

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - One match remains before the Conference USA Championship from April 16-19, and the UCF women's tennis team will travel to former Atlantic Sun rival Stetson on Saturday. First serve for the match against the Hatters in DeLand is scheduled for noon.

Against North Florida on April 4, the Knights captured the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead on the Ospreys. Freshman Alexis Rodriguez (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Andrea Yacaman (Cartagena, Columbia) notched singles victories providing the Knights with two more points. Four matches went a decisive third set, but the Knights were unable to take advantage falling 4-3 to the Ospreys.

The doubles tandem of freshman Jenny Frisell (Gothenburg, Sweden) and senior Elvira Serrot (Madrid, Spain) are 11-4 on the dual match season and cling to the No. 50 position in the latest Campbell/ITA Tennis Rankings.

Stetson boasts a 13-5 record on the season including a six-match win streak. Valentina Galbarini has posted a 14-3 record in singles action while the Hatters are 71-34 overall. The doubles teams for Stetson are 35-18 and Unnati Purushotham partnered with Galbarini to lead the Hatters with a 13-4 record.

All time, Stetson holds a 26-17 lead in the series against UCF. Last year, the Knights and Hatters met in Orlando UCF prevailed for a 6-1 win on senior day.

The Knights head to Houston for the C-USA Championship from April 16-19. Last year, UCF advanced to the second round after defeating Memphis 4-3 on the first day of competition.
