April 9, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - On Friday, four individuals will be inducted into the UCF Athletics Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the J. Rolfe Davis Recruiting Room at Bright House Networks Stadium. The event is part of UCF's Hall of Fame Weekend, which includes the spring football game Saturday.

The best way to enjoy the weekend is by purchasing the Hall of Fame Pass for only $60. The pass includes a ticket to the hall of fame ceremony and dinner, the Bubbalou's Pregame Pig-Out and UCF Football Legends Barbecue Saturday, the spring game, priority placement for the postgame autograph session, a weekend pass to the baseball series versus Tulane and a weekend pass to the softball series against Marshall.

To purchase a Hall of Fame Pass, contact Misty Knight in the Golden Knights Club office at (407) 882-1289.

Former UCF football standout Bob Spitulski will be inducted into the hall of fame Friday along with Sylvester Bembery (football), Chariya Davis (women's basketball) and Bennie Shaw (men's basketball).

Spitulski played outside linebacker for the Knights from 1988-91. He owns the UCF record for tackles-for-loss in a game (seven versus Savannah State in 1991) and totaled 46 tackles-for-loss during his career. As a senior, he received Associated Press All-America Third Team honors.

He was selected in the third round of the 1992 National Football League Draft by Seattle and spent three years with the Seahawks. Spitulski currently resides in central Florida, where he owns a pool installation company.

UCFAthletics.com recently had a chance to catch up with Spitulski and talked with him about entering the hall of fame.

What are your feelings about being inducted into the UCF Athletics Hall of Fame?
"I am excited that my children, family and friends can enjoy the experience. That is the biggest thing. I am a little bit older now, so I am so excited that they will be able to take part in this with me."

When you were a student-athlete, did you think that you would one day enter the hall of fame?
"To be honest, I never even really thought about it. I was never really too concerned with individual accomplishments. This was a team sport and I really enjoyed playing the game. That is why I was there- to get an education and to enjoy playing the game."

How often do you attend games at Bright House Networks Stadium?
"Now that my kids are a little bit older, we go to as many games as we can. We are pretty busy, but when we have time available we go to the games. We only live 10 minutes from the stadium. We enjoy it."

When you were a student-athlete, did you imagine that UCF would grow to eventually have its own stadium on campus?
"Being a college student and playing in that program, you are worried about now, not the future. I never really thought about it. When I got done and went to the NFL, (then) I could really see the program growing. I knew that it was only a matter of time. I didn't think it would happen as quick as it did. I am just amazed when I get on campus."
